summary

Introduction. In the last 20 years treatment results of testicular cancer patients
has been improved. At the present time up to 90% of the patients are cured.
Following successful treatment young men want to assess their fertility and
possibility to have children.
Objective. The impact of the standard chemotherapy in testicular cancer patients
on ejaculate volume, sperm count, motility, percentage of abnormal sperm cell,
vitality, serum FSH, LH, testosteron levels and volume of remaining testicle
has been assessed.
Patients and method. In 33 patients with testicular cancer sperm and serum
FSH, LH, testosteron before and after 3,6,12,18,24 months after chemotherapy
has been analysed.
Results. Before chemotherapy in 7 of 33 patients sperm analysis revealed no
abnormalities according to WHO criteria. 3,12, 24 months after chemotherapy
sperm analysis revealed no abnormalities respectively in 1 patient, 6 patients
and 7 patients.
Conclusions: 1. Most of the testicular cancer patients have impaired
spermatogenesis before any treatment.
2. The most impaired spermatogenesis has been assessed just after
chemotherapy- .
3. In some testicular cancer patients sperm parameters normalize gradually
after completing chemotherapy.
