summary

Changes of urological treatment of urolithiasis due to new endoscopic procedures such as ESWL, PCNL, URS were introduced. Between January 1997 and October 2002 a total of 1758 patients who were diagnosed with urinary tract calculi underwent either endoscopic or open surgical treatment. There has been a decrease of 72% in the number of open surgical procedures during this time. Simultaneously, number of endoscopic procedures like URS and PCNL increased of 84% and 278% respectively. However, open surgical operations will still be needed when reconstruction of urinary tract should be done at the same time.
