summary

The aim of the study. Urinary incontinence is frequent in peri- and posl-menopausa women. The aim of this study is to estimate a role of three-dimensional ultrasonography in examination of posterior vesico-urethral angle in women suffering urinary incontinence.
Materiał. The results of three-dimensional ultrasonography obtained in 24 women with stress urinary incontinence, as well as in 20 women with urge incontinence, were analysed. Patient were examined in rest and Valsalva lest conditions.
Results. The difference in the mean values of the posterior vesico-urethral angle in patients with stress ;ind urge incontinence was statistically significant (p<0.05). The increase of Ihese values was significantly higher in patients with stress incontinence than in those with urge incontinence (p = 0,001).
Conclusions. Our results show that ultrasonographic three-dimensional estima-tion of posterior vesico-urethral angle is a useful preliminary diagnostic method in urinary incontinence. Posterior vesico-urethral eingle value may be important in diagnosing the relative importance of stress or ihe neurogenic component in incontinence. Thus, it makes it possible to apply a specific, surgical or phannacological, treatment.
