summary

The aim of the study was to establish the influence of serum PSA measurement on fre±uency of
incidental prostatic carcinoma in surgically treated BPH patients. We compared two groups of
patients: 1993 pts. without measuring of serum PSA (group I), and 256 BPH pts. (group II) with
serum PSA level measured before surgery.
Analysis of our results suggests that serum PSA measurement did not increase the rate of detec-
ted incidental carcinomas, however the percetage of Tlb cancers decreased when serum PSA was
in use
