summary

The authours present the results of internal iliac artery embolization performed in 38 patients
because of massive hemorrhage as a conse±uence of inoperabile bladder neoplasms. Internal iliac
arteries have been closed with Spongostan trough catheterization of femoral artery or axillaris artery.
Post-operative complications have been reported in 29 ceses (76.3%). They include higher tempera-
ture - 16, ache in the buttocks - 14, abdomen - 2, hypogastrium and pubic symphysis -11, numbness
in lower limbs - 12, and buttocks - 6. Peroneal nerve paralysis has been noticed in one case. Apart
from this case other complications have disappeared within 14 days. Bleeding has stopped in 7
cases. In other patients it has decreased remarkably and has not re±uired transfusion.
