Regulations for authors

The Polish Journal of Urology (Urologia Polska) is the official, quarterly review of the Polish Association of Urology (Polskie Towarzystwo Urologiczne - PTU). The Journal provides a forum for the presentation of original clinical, experimental and other research studies in the field of urology, as well as opinions and commentaries by Polish and foreign urologists.

Authors submitting a paper or other material for publication in The Polish Journal of Urology are deemed to warrant the originality and proprietorship of the material, and to express consent to its publication. Copyright in papers or other material submitted and qualified for publication becomes the sole property of the PTU Editorial Office and may not be published in whole or part in other journals or digital media without obtaining the prior written consent of PTU, which will not be unreasonably withheld.

  1. The Polish Journal of Urology considers the following texts for publication (written in Polish or English only):
    • original clinical and experimental studies
    • short rapid clinical communications and case reports
    • review papers
    • comments and letters to the Editor

    The manuscripts should be sent by electronic mail to the address of the Editorial Office: augustyn@ptu.net.pl

    Where it is impossible to transmit material by Internet, it can be sent by mail on a CD formatted in Microsoft Word and containing the complete text of the paper, tables, figures, with legends to tables and figures, as well as references to the address of the Editorial Office:

  2. The maximum size of papers (excluding abstracts, tables, figures, photographs and references) are:
    • original clinical and experimental studies should not exceed 3000 words and 30 references
    • short clinical communications (case reports), should not exceed 1500 words and 10 references
    • comments and letters to the Editor should not exceed 1000 words
    • review papers - 4000 words and 50 references
  3. Manuscript structure:

    Manuscripts should follow the style of the Vancouver agreement detailed in the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals as presented in JAMA 1997; 277: 927-34 [www.acponline.org/journals/annals/01jan97/unifreqr.htm].

    • First page
      title, first names (full) and surnames of the Authors, name of the institution(s) ??? clinic(s), ward(s), or department(s) in which the study was conducted and the name(s) of head(s) of that/those institution(s). The Author/Authors include the proposal of publication category (clinical study, review, etc). The Editorial Board kindly requests Authors to specify the number of words contained in the main body of the paper.
    • Key words according to MeSH
      3-6 key words listed on the first page
    • Abstract of the paper
      for reviews and original study reports - 200 to 250 words. The abstract must consist of the introduction/background and aim of the study, material and methods, results and conclusions. For short clinical communications (case reports) - abstract 100 words maximum, containing all important elements of the paper.
    • Full text of the paper for original clinical and experimental studies must be divided into the following parts: introduction, material and methods, results, discussion and conclusions.
    • Acknowledgements at the Author's / Authors' discretion: for institutions, colleagues, information about financial grants and other economic relationships with pharmaceutical companies or institutions
    • References
      The list of references cited in the text of the paper according to the Vancouver system, contained on a separate sheet. Each reference in the text of the paper should be umbered with Arabic numerals in the order of their appearance in the text, marked in the texts with the numbers in brackets. The names of all Authors should be listed, if their number does not exceed six; for citations having seven or more authors, the names of the first three should be cited, followed by et all. Abbreviated titles of the journals cited should be consistent with their forms in Index Medicus (see also: International Committee of Medical Journal Editors: Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals.       • Tables, figures and illustrations:
        Tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order consistent with their appearance in the text, submitted on separate pages with description above the table. Figures and illustrations should also be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order of their appearance in the text. Descriptions of figures or photographs should be submitted listed on a separate sheet. Illustrations can be printed in colour providing that the Author contributes to the additional publication costs.
  4. Each paper should be accompanied by the following statement:
    I/we hereby declare that the paper: (title) has neither been published elsewhere, nor submitted for print in another journal. Mailing and e-mail address and telephone or fax number of the first Author's institution should be given.
  5. In case of publication by the Authors of any material previously published elsewhere, they are responsible for obtaining written consent from the publisher to reprint them in The Polish Journal of Urology.
  6. Papers previously published or submitted for print in another journal may be submitted for print in The Polish Journal of Urology, provided that the Author obtains a formal consent in writing from the publisher of the journal concerned.
  7. Guidelines of the Editorial Board.
    • Only SI system units should be used in the texts. Authors may use commonly accepted abbreviations in the texts of the papers, but the first use of an abbreviation must be preceded by an explanation.
    • Papers submitted will be evaluated anonymously by two Reviewers who will not be informed of the identities of the Authors and their affiliations. The Editorial Office will forward the Reviewers' comments to the Authors by electronic mail with a request to return the revised manuscript at their earliest convenience.
    • If the Authors disagree with the Reviewers' comments, they should express their objections in writing. The paper will be published together with the Authors' comments and the review.
    • The Authors will receive proofs of the paper in Acrobat PDF format, which should be sent back after corrections to the Editorial Office as soon as possible. The corrections should be limited to a minimum. Substantial modifications at this stage will only be possible at the Authors' expense.
    • The Authors may order reprints of their paper, which are chargeable reprints of the paper. The order, stating the number of copies required, should be enclosed with the corrected proofs sent back to the Editorial Office.
