The level of the Sense of Coherence (SOC) is an element which explains the relationship between support and health. Another important

resource which directly influences patients’ health is social support. The aim of the study was to estimate the levels of SOC and

support in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis treatment. The study involved 67 patients of Dialysis

Station in the Nephrology, Arterial Hypertension and Internal Medicine Clinic of Jurasz Hospital, Bydgoszcz. The SOC level was assessed

using Antonovsky SOC-29 questionnaire and social support was measured using Kmiecik-Baran scale. The study shows that the SOC

level of the patients is mean (134.88). The level of emotional support is the lowest and the level of informational support is the highest.

Professional work and the main disease influence the level of global SOC and education differentiates the manageability and valuative

support. Estimation of SOC and scopes of support may become a prognostic determinant in care of a patient at different stages of

a chronic disease.
