Postoperative courses in PCNL patients with special consideration to acute symptoms of inflammation of the urinary tract

summary

The paper presents an analysis of postoperative course in a randomised group of 57 women and 43 men, ages 13 to 68, who had Percutaneous lithotripsy (PCNL). Significant bacteriuria after surgery was found in 68% of patients and fever equal to or above 38°C in 46% of operated patients. In 65% of those having fever it did not last longer than 3 days and was asymptomatic. Fever was more common in patients with infected \'staghorn calculosis who also more often had bacterial sepsis. The duration of surgery had no significant influence on the postoperative course.
