summary

Radical prostatectomy is a fundamental way of treatment of clinically organ confined prostate cancer. Presence of cancer cells within ink-stained specimen surface is defined as positive surgical margin (PSM). The relation between their presence and PSA, Gleason score, neoadjuvant hormonal therapy or tumor volume is widely known. Positive surgical margins are negative prognostic markers which require modification of further treatment.
In the present paper clinical significance of positive surgical margins found after radical prostatectomy and way of treatment of patients with PSM are presented.
