summary
- objective
- To review our experience with retropritoneoscopic ureterolithotomy.
-
- patients and methods
- Between 2000 and 2003 retroperitoneoscopic ureterolithotomy was performed in 19 patients with large and hard stones as a primary procedure (7 patients) or as a salvage procedure after failure of first - line treatments (12 patients). Operative time, intraoperative complications and blood loss range, postoperative hospital stay and postoperative complications were analysed.
-
- results
- All but one stone were succesfully removed. The mean operative duration was 101 minutes and mean postoperative hospital stay was 5,7 days. The mean blood loss was 34,5 ml. The one postoperative complication encountered was urinary fistula.
-
- conclusions
- Retroperitoneoscopic ureterolithotomy is a safe and effective procedure that should be preferred as a second-line treatment when minimally invasive first - line treatment have failed or are unlikely to be effective.
