summary

The effect of a single injection of Stilbestrol in the first day of life on the morphology
and function of rat epididymis was studied. The investigations were carried oud using
rats of Wistar strain iniected s.c. with a single dose of 1 mg Stilbestrol (Polfa, Ponad) in
the first day of life. After 20, 28, 35, 45, 59, 67 74 and 84 day of age the animals were
sacrificcd and epididymides were obtained and fixed in Bouin li±uid.
Statistical analysis of the body weight, the weight of epididymides and serum concen-
tration of LH and testosterone was conducted and the sections of epididymides were
histologically eyaluated.
The results indicated that a single dose of estrogen injected in the first day of life led
to a marked alterations in the hormonal profile of LH and testosterone secretion with
concomitant morphological and functional changes in epididymides resulting in prolife-
ration of the connective tissue and smooth muscles of the interstitium and in atrophy of
the glandular epithelium. These changes were more pronounced in ductuli offerentes
caput epididymis) than in the epididymis canal (corpus and cauda epididymis
