summary

ESWL, now an appraved method of urolithiasis treatment, is not free of unfavorable adver-
se reactions and complications. There are data available, suggesting, that morbidity of hyper-
tension in ESWL treated patients is twice as high as in non treated population. Endothelin (ET)
is a potent vasoconstricting factor, involved in pathogenesis of hypertension. This prospective
study was aimed to determine the influence of renal tissue trauma in children due to ESWL on
ET blood and urine secretion. In 9 treated children, the ESWL treatment caused gradual, stati-
sticly significant, increase in urine ET levels in children followed up 3 months after the proce-
dure. This increase is not accompanied by statistically significant rise in ET serum levels nor
by increased blood pressure
