summary
- ESWL, now an appraved method of urolithiasis treatment, is not free of unfavorable adver-
- se reactions and complications. There are data available, suggesting, that morbidity of hyper-
- tension in ESWL treated patients is twice as high as in non treated population. Endothelin (ET)
- is a potent vasoconstricting factor, involved in pathogenesis of hypertension. This prospective
- study was aimed to determine the influence of renal tissue trauma in children due to ESWL on
- ET blood and urine secretion. In 9 treated children, the ESWL treatment caused gradual, stati-
- sticly significant, increase in urine ET levels in children followed up 3 months after the proce-
- dure. This increase is not accompanied by statistically significant rise in ET serum levels nor
- by increased blood pressure
