summary

Autopsy material from the years 1956?1985 was analysed for finding of cases of polycystic renal disease qualified according to the classifications of Osathandon and Potter as well as that of Heptinstall into four histoclinical types. The preva-lence of this anomaly was discussed in relation to type, age and sex. Type III was prevailing, type I was less fre±uent and type II was very rarely observed. These obserations are in accordance with the previous reports. Type IV of the anomaly was not found at all. Type I and III were not correlated with sex, while type II occurred mostly in female newborns. The analysis of the age showed a very low survival time in type I and II, with most newborns dying within the first thre days of life, due to coexistence of developmental anomalies. The diagnosis of renal polycystic disease was made during life in only a smali number of cases.
