summary

In a material of 50 human fetuses and 10 male adults aged 30?60 years the innervation of the external urethral sphincter muscle was studied. In the studied specimens it wat observed that the innervation of the external urethral sphincter was derived from the deep perineal nerve (a branch of the pudendal nerve) and from the hypogastric inferior plexus (via the pelvic splanchnic nerves). Probably the pelvic splanchnic nerves contain motor somatic fibres (similarly as the pudendal nerve), but this supposition re±uires further microscopic and electron microscopic studies. The pelvic splanchnic nerves and the pudendal nerve are formed by the same ventral branches of the sacral nerves (S2?S4).
