summary

introduction
Urinary tract mycoses may be a cause of acute hydronephrosis in children. Premature infants and newborns with low birth weight, subjected to invasive procedures and wide spectrum antibiotic therapy, constitute the high risk group of urinary tract fungal infections.
aim of the study
The aim of the report is the presentation of risk factors of urinary tract fungal infections in newborns and infants, along with therapeutic management methods in cases when such infections impair urine outflow from the kidneys.
material and method
The authors present their observations based on three children with urinary tract fungal infections requiring surgical interventions due to partial or complete urine retention. Two of the children were premature newborns and one was an infant. All the children were subjected to bilateral kidney revision with removal of fungal balls from the renal collective system and creation of a temporal nephrostomy. The surgical treatment was supplemented with pharmacology. In all the cases, Candida albicans was isolated.
results
The results of surgical and pharmacological management were good. Accessing both renal pelvises using the dorsal approach (dorsal lumbotomy) seems to be convenient for the surgeon and not unduly stressing for the patient.
conclusions
The presented cases confirm the factors associated with an increased risk of urinary tract mycoses reported in the literature. In the risk group of children, there are indications for prophylactic administration of antifungal agents. In such patients, surgical and pharmacological treatment are complementary.
