summary

Urea decomposition by urease may play an important role in the development of nephrolithiasis. In a group of 212 patients with nephrolithiasis in 39 cases (18%) infections were found caused by bacteria producing urease. This infection was sevenfold as fre±uent in' cases of staghorm nephrolithiasis than in the usual form. The necessity of postóperative antibacterial treatment is stressed and the possibility of using acetohydroxamic acid as an urease inhibitor is suggested.
