summary

Objective. To evaluate clinical efficacy of TVT procedure as the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. Moreover, intraoperative as well as postoperative complications were critically analysed.
Patients and methods. One hundred and twenty female patients suffering from SUI were included and underwent clinical evaluation with Gaudcnz questionnaire and urodynamic tests (cystometry and urethral profilometry). TVT procedure implies the insertion of prolene tape around mid-urethra via a minimal vaginal incision.
Results. Among 120 treated women 109 (90,80%) were fully recovered, 5 (7,5%) were improved and in 2 cases (1,7%) operation failed. No major intra- or postoperative complications occurred. Nine cases of bladder perforations were treated with catheterisations and had no negative impact on clinical outcome. Six patients developed detrusor instability cle novo.
Conclusions. After almost two years of clinical experiences we consider TVT procedure as a safe and effective surgical procedure for females with the SUI. Because of very high effectiveness and reproducibility accompanied by its technical simplicity TVT procedure should be considered as the operation of choice tor female SUI treatment.
