summary

introduction
Uroflowmetry was introduced to the diagnostic protocol of the lower urinary tract in 60's of the previous century. Since then many trials have been performed to determine normal range of uroflowmetric parameters and to find their interdependence.
aim of the study
Assess correlation between flow parameters and voided volume as well as flow time and voided volume in children.
material and methods
A questionnaire was posted to parents of over 1000 children to exclude from the study those with symptoms of the lower urinary tract dysfunction. Healthy children underwent uroflowmetric examinations. Residual volume was estimated by means of ultrasonography. The results obtained in 288 children (139 girls and 149 boys) were statistically analyzed.
results
Voided volume and flow parameters were higher in girls. Intermediate correlation index was found between voided volume and flow parameters while high correlation existed between voided volume and flow time. The correlation between average and maximal flow and voided volume was stronger in boys than in girls.
conclusions
The correlation between uroflowmetric parameters is not close. Thus, a very cautious interpretation is necessary when assessing relations between flow and volume.
