summary

The investigations were performed in embryos and human fetuses up to the 12* week
of inrautherinal life.
It was found that the basic changes in formation of male urethra take place in emb-
ryonic and early fetal periods (7 to 12 week).
The urethra and corpus spongiosus, in toto, orginatcs from lamina urethrae, whereas
the apical part of the urethra, surrounded by glans, originates from both lamina urethrae
and lamina sinusoidalis.
In the 1 l'h week a conjunction of lamina urethrae with lamina sinusoidalis takes place
and this will lead to the formation of the ultimate ostium urethrae. Corpus spongious as
well as corpora cavernosa and urethra are completely formed in the 12* week of intrau-
therinal life. The inside of the urethra iscovcredwithmultilayerhexagonal epithelium,
and the lumen occurs in the bulbourethrical glands.
