URETHROPLASTY WITH THE USE OF A FREE SKIN FLAP OF FULL THICKNESS IN THE TREATMENT OF HYPOSPADIAS

summary

The authors describe the operation for hypospadias in which the absent seg­ment of the urethra is formed from a free full-thickness skin flap obtained from the medial part of the arm. The operation was done in 12 cases with very good result in 8 of them. In 4 cases complications developed with urethral stricture and/or urethral fistula. In 2 cases strictures were removed by internal urethro­tomy with Otis urethrotome, in one case the stricture was excised and the stumps of the urethra were anastomosed. The fistulae were excised and closed. The final results of these corrective operations were good. Urethroplasty with a free full--thickness flap of hairless skin is a method which may be used in cases of hypospadias operated upon previously and having no foreskin.
