summary

The authors evaluated three- and five-year survival after radical nephrectomy in 191 patients with cancer of the kidney basing on death rate tables characteristic of the group analysed. The greatest chances of five-year survival are among patients with the lst and 2nd stage of cancer of the kidney (86.0% and 75.0% res-pectively), those among patients with the 3rd and 4th stage are significantly lower (40.00/o and 16.0%) respectively). The percentage of patients surviving five years irrespective of the progression of the disease is 63%. The authors' own obserations indicate that radical nephrectomy is now the most efficient method of treating cancer of the kidney in the lst, 2nd and 3rd stage of the progression of the disease, and in some patients with the 4th stage of cancer.
