summary

In 89 patients with malignant tumours of the renal parenchyma radical nephrec­tomy wals done associated with verification of the venous vessels. In 20 (22.5%) cases the operation was extended to the inferior caval v>ein which in 18 cases con­tained a plug of malignant tissue. In the latter group in 2 patients operation was followed by thrombosis of the renal vein of the contralateral kidney. In one of them a good effect was obtained with haemodialysis and anticoagulants, in the other treatment with diuretics and anticoagulants was successful but the patient died from mas;sive haemorrhage from the digestive tract.
Attention is called to increased risk of renal vein thrombosis developmenł in patients with renal carcinoma, especially with coexi,stent malignant tissue plug in the inferior caval vein.
