summary

In 15 patients with the clinical diagnosis of prostatic adenoma or carcinoma 8 transurethral electroresections and 7 transvesical adenomectomies were performed.
In each case 4 fragments of prostatic tissue were taken for NMR examination determining the relaxation time T1 and T2 with a NMR impulse spectrometer operating at the fre±uency of 27 MHz. The volume of the fragments was about 0,125 cm3. The study was done 24 hours after the operation. Microscopic exa-mination disclosed adono-carcinoma in 4 cases, prostatic adenoma in 10, and in 1 case atypical hyperplasia was found changing into mature malignant tumours.
It was conoluded that:
1.Seotions taken from neoplastic lesions show a significant prolongation of T2.
2.No significant prolongation of T1 was found in sections of prostatic car
cinoma as compared with sections of prostatic adenoma.
3.Relaxation times T1 and T2 in the material obtained during transurethral
electroresection were significantly shorter than in tissues obtained during trans-
vesical adenomectomy.
