summary
- In 15 patients with the clinical diagnosis of prostatic adenoma or carcinoma 8 transurethral electroresections and 7 transvesical adenomectomies were performed.
- In each case 4 fragments of prostatic tissue were taken for NMR examination determining the relaxation time T1 and T2 with a NMR impulse spectrometer operating at the fre±uency of 27 MHz. The volume of the fragments was about 0,125 cm3. The study was done 24 hours after the operation. Microscopic exa-mination disclosed adono-carcinoma in 4 cases, prostatic adenoma in 10, and in 1 case atypical hyperplasia was found changing into mature malignant tumours.
- It was conoluded that:
- 1.Seotions taken from neoplastic lesions show a significant prolongation of T2.
- 2.No significant prolongation of T1 was found in sections of prostatic car
- cinoma as compared with sections of prostatic adenoma.
- 3.Relaxation times T1 and T2 in the material obtained during transurethral
- electroresection were significantly shorter than in tissues obtained during trans-
- vesical adenomectomy.
